The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the creation of a Special Representatives Network across major world capitals in a move aimed at strengthening its international engagement and spotlighting concerns over Nigeria’s democratic environment.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the party said the initiative comes against the backdrop of what it described as a growing pattern of undemocratic practices and sustained pressure on opposition figures since July 2025.

The ADC alleged attempts to destabilize opposition parties, weaken legitimate leadership structures, and limit political participation.

Under the new framework, the party will appoint envoys in key global cities—including Washington, DC; London; Brussels; Berlin; Ottawa; Paris; Pretoria; Addis Ababa; Nairobi; Accra; Geneva; and New York—to serve as official liaisons with international stakeholders.

According to the party, these representatives will engage with foreign governments, parliamentary bodies, international media, democracy-support organizations, and Nigerian diaspora communities.

Their mandate includes providing regular briefings on political developments in Nigeria, with a focus on governance, electoral integrity, human rights concerns, and reported cases of repression against opposition actors.

The ADC said the initiative is intended to ensure that global partners receive “balanced and credible” accounts of Nigeria’s political situation, rather than relying solely on official government narratives.

Party officials added that the move is also part of a broader effort to position the ADC as a credible democratic alternative committed to constitutional governance and accountability.

As part of the rollout, the party also announced plans to launch a National Documentation Initiative. The program will task state-level structures with collecting and documenting incidents affecting political participation, including alleged threats, harassment, violent attacks, arbitrary arrests, and disruptions of political activities.

The ADC described both initiatives as strategic steps to expand its international presence, improve information flow on Nigeria’s political climate, and reinforce its advocacy for democratic norms and the protection of opposition rights.

The statement was signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress.
