Abuja Young Wives and Mothers (AYWM), a women-focused community organization, held its 2025 end-of-year get-together in Kubwa, December 13, 2025 bringing together members to celebrate a year of empowerment initiatives, outreach programs and shared progress.
The Abuja-based group, dedicated to supporting young wives and mothers, has positioned itself as a platform for mentorship, economic growth and social connection. According to members, AYWM creates safe and functional spaces where women can build bonds, access opportunities and grow together.
Speaking at the event, Grace Ode, treasurer of AYWM, said the group has made tangible strides toward its mission despite limited resources.
“By God’s grace, AYWM has been able to empower women by creating opportunities for them to grow their businesses and, in our own way, provide job opportunities,” Ode said. “This year, we also visited secondary schools to educate students on personal care and healthy living.”
She described the annual gathering as both a thanksgiving and a celebration. “The purpose of this get-together is to thank God for His faithfulness to us from January to December,” she said. “We also came together to relax, have fun and celebrate the season.”
The event featured games, competitions and the distribution of Christmas gifts to members and their children, reinforcing the group’s emphasis on family and community.
AYWM founder and CEO, Precious Edokpolor, who also leads the African Young Women and Mothers Initiative, expressed gratitude for the unity and well-being of the group over the past year.
“I feel good and I’m grateful to God for allowing us to see the end of this year without major issues in our families or within the group,” Edokpolor said while fielding questions from Standard Times Nigeria. “We thank God that we have not recorded any loss. We love one another, and we are moving together as one.”
Looking ahead, Edokpolor outlined an ambitious vision for 2026, promising expanded empowerment programs and new initiatives aimed at improving the lives of mothers, particularly in Abuja.
“2026 will be a greater and better year for us,” she said. “We are going to upgrade, move forward and introduce new empowerment programs that will take our women to a different level.”
She concluded with a seasonal message to members and Nigerians at large, wishing them a prosperous new year and continued protection and well-being.
The gathering closed on a festive note, underscoring AYWM’s commitment to blending celebration with purpose as it prepares for the year ahead.
