The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly rejected the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling, escalating tensions between the opposition party and the electoral body.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC alleged that INEC’s position was influenced by pressure from a government it described as “jittery” over the party’s growing political momentum.
The party accused the electoral commission of presenting a contradictory and factually inconsistent interpretation of the court’s decision, insisting that it would soon provide a detailed clarification to counter INEC’s claims.
According to the statement, the ADC believes INEC has effectively aligned itself with the government against the interests of Nigerians. The party further claimed that recent actions reflect broader attempts to weaken opposition parties and promote a one-party political system.
Despite the dispute, the ADC said it is currently reviewing its options and will announce its next course of action in due time.
The party also called on its members and supporters across the country to remain calm and resolute as the situation develops, signaling that further directives will be issued soon.
The unfolding disagreement adds a new layer of uncertainty to Nigeria’s political landscape, as observers watch closely for the ADC’s next move and any response from INEC.
