Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has described the conferment of the prestigious “Soniyanko Nupe” chieftaincy title on First Lady Oluremi Tinubu as “richly deserved,” citing her humanitarian contributions and people-centred leadership.

The honour was bestowed by the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, who also chairs the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers.

The title is regarded as one of the most respected traditional recognitions in the Nupe Kingdom.

In a statement released on Sunday, the minister said the recognition comes at a critical point in Nigeria’s development and reflects the First Lady’s sustained commitment to social inclusion, humanitarian service, and support for vulnerable populations.

She highlighted Mrs. Tinubu’s interventions for victims of insecurity, displacement, and natural disasters, including assistance to flood-affected communities in Niger State and other parts of the country.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim noted that the First Lady’s initiatives have had a far-reaching impact on women, children, and families nationwide.

According to her, these efforts have strengthened communities, restored hope among vulnerable groups, and promoted a culture of care and shared prosperity.

The minister also linked the honour to the upcoming “Power of 10 Million Mega Empowerment and Rally,” themed “One Voice, One Movement, One Choice,” describing it as a call for unity and national cohesion.

She emphasized the importance of continued support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda and expanding social investment programmes.

She added that the “Soniyanko Nupe” title goes beyond ceremonial recognition, describing it as a tribute to service, compassion, and leadership.

The minister expressed confidence that the honour would further inspire the First Lady to deepen her contributions to national development and humanitarian causes.

The statement concluded with congratulations to Mrs. Tinubu, acknowledging her role in mobilizing communities and strengthening Nigeria’s social fabric.
