The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration through enhanced strategic communication, public engagement and information sharing to support national security and improve public confidence in government institutions.
The renewed commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anietie Okokon, to the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) Abdullahi Maiwada, at the Customs Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
The visit, part of the Police spokesperson’s familiarisation tour following his assumption of office, provided an opportunity for both agencies to consolidate their longstanding relationship and explore new areas of cooperation aimed at promoting effective institutional communication and strengthening security coordination.
The engagement also coincided with the induction of 70 officers and personnel of the NCS Public Relations Unit into the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), a development both agencies described as a significant step towards promoting professionalism and ethical standards in public sector communication.
Speaking during the meeting, DC Maiwada welcomed the visit and commended the Nigeria Police Force for fostering stronger institutional partnerships among public relations professionals across government agencies.
He said the collaboration reflects the shared responsibility of both organisations in shaping public perception, building stakeholder confidence and advancing government policies through effective communication.
According to him, the Nigeria Customs Service remains committed to sustaining its longstanding partnership with the Police, stressing that closer cooperation between their public relations units would further strengthen public trust and institutional effectiveness.
Earlier, CSP Okokon reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to maintaining productive relationships with sister security agencies, particularly in areas that enhance professionalism, transparency and public confidence.
He noted that strategic communication has become an essential tool in modern governance and security administration, making closer collaboration among government communication professionals imperative.
Okokon added that the renewed partnership would enhance information sharing, improve public engagement and reinforce coordinated efforts in advancing Nigeria’s national security objectives.
