Nigeria’s drive to attract fresh investment into renewable energy and energy efficiency will take centre stage this week as government officials, investors, regulators, development partners and energy industry leaders converge in Lagos for the 5th Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Associations Alliance (REEEA-A) Investment and Partnership Conference.
The two-day international conference, scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, to Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, is themed “Accelerating Collective Action and Strategic Partnerships for Equitable Clean Energy Access.”
The conference is coming at a critical period in Nigeria’s energy sector, with the country seeking to expand electricity access, attract private capital, strengthen energy infrastructure, promote innovation and develop commercially viable solutions for a more resilient and inclusive energy system.
Expected to headline the gathering are the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Dr Abba Aliyu; Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Engr. Mustapha Abdullahi; Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Musiliu Oseni; and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), Engr. Adesayo Michael.
Their participation, according to the organisers, underscores the strategic importance of the conference in bridging the gap between government policy, investment, technology and implementation.
REEEA-A said the conference is designed to move discussions on Nigeria’s clean energy transition beyond policy declarations to practical investment opportunities, strategic partnerships and scalable solutions.
The gathering will bring together policymakers, financiers, investors, project developers, technology providers, development institutions and other industry stakeholders to examine the challenges and opportunities shaping Nigeria’s clean energy market.
The organisers said the conference would also seek to strengthen investor confidence, increase private-sector participation, showcase emerging technologies and facilitate partnerships capable of translating the country’s clean energy potential into projects, businesses, jobs and improved electricity access.
Expected participants include representatives of the Federal Ministry of Power, REA, NEMSA, GIZ Nigerian Energy Support Programme, European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, All On, GET.invest and Sterling Bank Plc, among others.
Also listed among senior participants are Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, Nigeria Chapter Chairman of the World Energy Council and Chairman of the REEEA-A Board of Trustees; Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye; Ondo State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. Alabi Johnson; and Jigawa State Commissioner of Power and Energy, Engr. Dr Suraju Musa.
According to REEEA-A, the broad participation reflects the growing recognition that Nigeria’s energy challenges require coordinated action involving government, financial institutions, technology companies, businesses and development partners.
Discussions at the conference will focus on how Nigeria can mobilise the capital, partnerships and innovations required to accelerate its energy transition.
Key areas expected to feature include energy access, investment, policy and regulatory reforms, private-sector participation, clean energy technologies, energy efficiency, electric mobility, women and youth participation, skills development and climate finance.
A technology and innovation showcase will also feature emerging solutions and enterprises contributing to Nigeria’s clean energy and sustainable mobility ambitions.
REEEA-A said the conference is expected to go beyond discussions by connecting institutions and individuals capable of financing, developing, regulating, deploying and scaling clean energy solutions across the country.
Nigeria’s energy challenge presents economic opportunity
The Alliance noted that Nigeria’s energy transition represents both an urgent development challenge and a major economic opportunity.
With millions of Nigerians and businesses still requiring reliable and affordable electricity, it said attracting investment into renewable energy, energy efficiency, distributed power, infrastructure and emerging technologies would be critical to the country’s economic competitiveness and sustainable development.
The conference will also feature the REEEA-A Clean Energy Awards, which will recognise individuals and organisations that have demonstrated excellence, innovation and measurable impact across the renewable energy and energy-efficiency value chain.
REEEA-A urged government agencies, investors, financial institutions, development organisations, energy companies, technology providers, project developers, professional bodies, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to participate in the conference.
The Alliance said the scale of Nigeria’s energy challenge required a corresponding level of collective action, investment and strategic partnership to achieve equitable access to clean and affordable energy.
