Adeleye Falade has officially assumed office as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), marking a new leadership chapter for the country’s foremost liquefied natural gas company.
Falade took over on Wednesday at the company’s Corporate Head Office in Port Harcourt, succeeding Philip Mshelbila, who was recently appointed Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.
Bringing nearly three decades of experience in the global oil and gas industry, Falade has built a strong track record across the LNG and petroleum value chain, with leadership roles spanning Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Russia, and Africa during his time with Shell.
Industry observers note that his expertise covers gas and petroleum operations, production optimisation, engineering, and operational excellence, alongside business transformation and change management in complex multinational environments.
Before his appointment, Falade served as Managing Director of Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad from April 2024, where he oversaw strategic operations at one of the world’s established LNG producers.
Earlier in 2023, he was named Country Chair for Shell Namibia, providing leadership for the company’s operations and stakeholder engagement in the country.
Falade is no stranger to NLNG. Between May 2019 and September 2023, he served as General Manager, Production, where he was responsible for ensuring plant performance, operational safety, and production reliability at the company’s facilities on Bonny Island. He also previously held the role of Operations Manager from 2015 to 2018, overseeing plant operations.
His international experience also includes a stint in the Netherlands as Regional Asset Management System Implementation Manager at Shell in The Hague, where he led initiatives to enhance operational efficiency across global assets.
A graduate of University of Ibadan with a degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Falade also holds an MBA from Henley Business School.
He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, as well as a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Falade assumes leadership at a critical time for NLNG and the global LNG industry.
The company recently secured long-term gas supply agreements with six third-party suppliers to strengthen feed gas availability to its Bonny Island facilities.
This development comes as the highly anticipated Train 7 expansion project nears completion, a move expected to significantly boost production capacity and reinforce Nigeria’s position in the global LNG market.
His appointment also underscores NLNG’s commitment to indigenous leadership, as he joins a fully Nigerian management team steering the company through its next phase of growth.
