The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared that it is committed to transparency, prudence and accountability in managing its finances, following the presentation of its financial statement at the party’s third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday, October 26, 2026.

The party’s National Treasurer, Dr. Peter Onigah, disclosed that the NDC recorded approximately ₦8.53 billion in total inflows, spent about ₦2.40 billion and retained a balance of approximately ₦6.13 billion to finance its political activities.
Presenting the financial statement at the meeting held in Maitama, Federal Capital Territory, Onigah said the party had exercised financial discipline and ensured that resources entrusted to its leadership were managed prudently.
He explained that the party’s financial management was guided by the experience of its officials, the advice of its national leaders and the National Working Committee (NWC).
According to him, the party would provide a detailed breakdown of its financial transactions as it approaches the end of its first accounting year.
“We have been very prudent. Our chief is made up of technocrats, people who are experienced and people who have different capacities,” he said.
Onigah added that the party had avoided spending all the resources available to it, stressing that every contribution received would be properly accounted for.
He appealed to Nigerians and party members to support the NDC financially, noting that the party was still building its structures and had yet to assume control of government at any level.
“As a new party, we don’t have people in government yet. All of us are outside the government. So we need to contribute together and ensure that our party will prevail and achieve the desired objectives,” he said.
The treasurer maintained that the party’s commitment to accountability was central to its ambition of building a government capable of improving the country for present and future generations.
He also urged supporters to contribute towards funding the party’s programmes and political activities.
In his remarks, Senator Victor Umeh commended the party’s leadership for presenting its financial statement and retaining more than ₦6 billion from its reported inflows.
Umeh described the balance as seed money for the party’s future activities, while acknowledging that the funds would not be sufficient to meet all its political and organisational needs.
He said the money was raised from contributions by party members rather than external sources, adding that the party would need additional funding as it prepares for its campaigns and other programmes.
The senator encouraged party members and supporters to explore ways of contributing towards the party’s financial sustainability.
He also appealed to the party’s leadership to consider established practices in political party financing, particularly contributions from state chapters and other party stakeholders during election and nomination periods.
Umeh said sustained financial support would be necessary for the NDC to pursue its political ambitions and implement its planned activities.
Earlier, the NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, delivered his opening remarks at the NEC meeting.
The meeting provided a platform for the party’s leadership to review its finances, discuss its organisational needs and encourage members to support its activities ahead of future political engagements.
