Nigeria’s drive to expand gas production and solidify its position in the global energy market received a major boost as the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) reaffirmed their commitment to deeper collaboration.
The Commission Chief Executive of NUPRC, Mrs. Oritsemeyewa Eyesan, made this known while receiving the Managing Director of NLNG, Mr. Adeleye Falade, during a courtesy visit to the Commission.
Describing the visit as timely, Eyesan disclosed that the Commission has intensified reforms since December to align regulatory processes with provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
She emphasized that the NUPRC is deliberately repositioning itself as a business enabler to support growth in the oil and gas sector.
According to her, the Commission’s monthly stakeholder engagements have been instrumental in addressing industry challenges proactively and preventing escalation of operational issues.
Eyesan linked the government’s responsiveness in the sector to rising investor confidence and an increase in final investment decisions.
She reiterated that Nigeria’s “Decade of Gas” initiative is a practical framework aimed at boosting domestic gas utilisation while strengthening export capacity.
She also called for stronger alignment across the industry, urging operators to match government efforts with improved performance, strict compliance, and disciplined investments.
In his remarks, NLNG Managing Director Adeleye Falade underscored the importance of upstream collaboration in sustaining gas supply.
He revealed that NLNG has committed 100 percent of its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) production to the domestic market, attributing the move to a significant surge in local demand rather than reduced output.
Falade further announced that the company’s Train 7 project, expected to come on stream next year, will increase production capacity by approximately 35 percent, enhancing both domestic supply and export potential.
The renewed partnership between NUPRC and NLNG is seen as a critical step toward achieving Nigeria’s long-term gas development goals and strengthening energy security.
