Nigeria is set to host the eighth edition of the Nigeria–European Union Ministerial Dialogue on Monday, March 23, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, Tafawa Balewa House, Abuja, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, will lead the Nigerian delegation, while the European Union team will be headed by Kaja Kallas, who is scheduled to arrive in Abuja on Sunday.

Ahead of the main dialogue, Kallas is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Tuggar to review existing Nigeria–EU relations and explore opportunities for enhanced collaboration.

The discussions are anticipated to focus on strategic areas such as trade and investment, security cooperation, governance, migration, climate action, and sustainable development.

As part of her official engagements, the EU High Representative will also pay a courtesy visit to Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, underscoring the importance both parties attach to deepening diplomatic ties.

A joint press briefing by the two leaders will follow the ministerial meeting, where they are expected to outline key outcomes and highlight new areas of partnership.

Officials say the dialogue represents a critical platform for reinforcing Nigeria’s strategic relationship with the European Union, anchored on shared values of multilateral, mutual respect, and long-term cooperation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to a productive and forward-looking engagement, expressing optimism about the outcomes of the high-level talks.
