The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja affirming the eligibility of former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the PDP described the court’s decision as being in line with both the law and “common sense.”
The Federal High Court, Abuja Division, ruled that Jonathan remains constitutionally qualified to seek the nation’s highest office despite previously taking the oath of office as president twice.
Reacting to the verdict, the party maintained that laws could not operate with retroactive or retrospective effect, insisting that the judgment had clarified lingering constitutional debates surrounding Jonathan’s eligibility ahead of the 2027 general election.
Political analysts say the ruling could reshape early calculations ahead of the next presidential contest, with renewed speculation over Jonathan’s possible return to active frontline politics.
