As Nigeria marks Democracy Day 2026, renowned diaspora leader and June 12 democracy advocate, HRH Queen Mother Ambassador Amina Temitope Labinjo Ajayi JP, popularly known as Mama Diaspora, has called on Nigerians at home and abroad to renew their commitment to justice, unity, and national development.
In her Democracy Day message to Nigerians across the world, Queen Mother Ajayi described democracy as more than a historic date, emphasizing that it represents a daily commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
“Democracy is not just a date. It is our daily commitment to justice, unity, and progress.
It is the farmer in Kebbi, the tech innovator in Lagos, the nurse in London, the student in Texas, and the mother in Onitsha—all standing together as one Nigerian family,” she said.
Reflecting on the significance of June 12, the respected advocate noted that the day remains a powerful symbol of sacrifice, resilience, and the enduring belief in the power of the people.
Speaking as a participant in the pro-democracy struggle who went into exile during the fight for democratic governance, she paid tribute to the heroes who made personal sacrifices for the freedoms Nigerians enjoy today.
Queen Mother Ajayi also commended millions of Nigerians who continue to contribute to national growth through hard work, innovation, civic participation, and faith in the nation’s future.
Highlighting the opportunities presented by the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda,
she urged citizens to embrace a shared vision for a better Nigeria—one driven by job creation, dignity, clean energy, smart cities, and equal opportunities for all.
Special recognition was given to Nigerians living abroad, whom she described as ambassadors of the nation and a vital force in national development.
“To my darling Nigerians in the Diaspora: You are Nigeria’s global pride. Your remittances build homes, your ideas build futures, and your love builds the bridge that keeps us one.”
The Democracy Day message concluded with prayers for the nation, its democratic institutions, and its leadership, while expressing confidence in Nigeria’s future.
“May God bless our democracy. May God bless our President, H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Nigeria will rise. Nigeria will win. Nigeria is blessed.”
As Nigerians commemorate 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, the message serves as a reminder of the nation’s collective responsibility to safeguard democracy and work together toward a brighter future.
