The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has intensified its nationwide campaign to promote occupational safety and health (OSH), with stakeholder engagements underway in Bauchi, Jos and Kaduna.
The programme, tagged “Programme on Safety Regulations, Policies and Standards,” is being organised by the Fund’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department to deepen employers’ understanding of workplace safety and strengthen their capacity to create safer working environments.

The three-day engagement, which commenced on Tuesday, August 18 and ends Thursday, August 20, 2026, is focused on improving stakeholders’ understanding of OSH frameworks, challenges and opportunities in Nigeria, while encouraging the integration of workplace safety into organisational and national development strategies.
According to a statement issued by NSITF Head of Corporate Affairs, Alexandra Mede, the initiative is also designed to build employers’ capacity to develop and implement effective OSH policies, promote collaboration among stakeholders and expose participants to emerging safety technologies and innovations.
Mede said the programme would further equip participants with practical skills in risk prevention, incident investigation and safety leadership.
She disclosed that 85 employers were invited to each of the three locations, but attendance had surpassed expectations.
The NSITF spokesperson noted that the strong turnout followed the first phase of the campaign held in Owerri, Port Harcourt and Lagos from August 11 to 14, where more than 100 employers participated in each session.
The Fund said the campaign was aimed at moving occupational safety and health beyond a mere compliance requirement to become a core component of business strategy.
It added that employers would be equipped with modern tools, technologies and approaches for preventing workplace incidents and improving safety standards.
NSITF further noted that the rising incidence of workplace accidents and compensation claims in some sectors had underscored the urgent need to strengthen safety leadership, risk management and incident investigation capabilities among employers.
The Fund said the Bauchi, Jos and Kaduna engagements would conclude on Thursday, adding that it plans to extend the stakeholder outreach to other parts of the country.
According to NSITF, the broader objective is to promote the widespread adoption of occupational safety standards and foster a stronger culture of workplace safety nationwide.
