President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the constitution of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, with the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, appointed as Deputy Director-General in charge of Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation.
The council, which brings together prominent political leaders, strategists, party stakeholders and grassroots mobilisers, is expected to coordinate the APC’s campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Umahi’s appointment places him at the centre of the campaign’s strategic operations, particularly in infrastructure advocacy, political mobilisation and nationwide sensitisation.
The Minister is expected to deploy his experience as a former Deputy Governor, Governor and Senator, as well as his current role as a Federal Minister, to promote the achievements and infrastructure development initiatives of the Tinubu administration under the Renewed Hope agenda.
His extensive political network, grassroots engagement and record in infrastructure development are also expected to strengthen the campaign’s capacity to communicate the administration’s achievements and mobilise support across the country.
The campaign council will be headed by Senator Abdulaziz Yari, former Governor of Zamfara State and serving Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District, who has been appointed Director-General.
Other members of the council include political leaders, former governors, serving senators, ministers, party chieftains and grassroots mobilisers, reflecting the APC’s effort to build a broad-based campaign structure with national reach and political experience.
The structure places particular emphasis on political mobilisation, grassroots sensitisation, infrastructure advocacy and effective national coordination as the party prepares to take the message and achievements of the Renewed Hope administration to Nigerians across the federation.
With Yari providing overall leadership and Umahi overseeing infrastructure, mobilisation and sensitisation, the campaign council is expected to drive the APC’s nationwide engagement ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The appointment of Umahi, according to the statement, is in recognition of his leadership qualities, political experience, infrastructure expertise and capacity for national mobilisation.
The statement was signed by Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director, Information and Public Relations, on August 22, 2026.
