The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, has issued a stern directive to 17 Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) under the Metro Area Command, ordering them to eliminate robbery and other criminal activities across Abuja within two weeks or face sanctions.
The directive was delivered during a high-level security meeting held in Abuja over the weekend, where the police chief reviewed the prevailing security situation and outlined new operational measures aimed at tackling emerging threats within the nation’s capital.
CP Sanusi expressed concern over the rising wave of criminal activities reported across various Area Commands, including traffic robbery, vehicle snatching, the notorious “one chance” robbery syndicates, and motorists driving against traffic regulations.
The police commissioner also highlighted other challenges confronting the city, such as the activities of commercial motorcyclists operating on restricted major roads, vandalism of public and private infrastructure, illegal parking on highways, and worsening traffic congestion.
Declaring a zero-tolerance stance, CP Sanusi instructed all DPOs to take immediate and decisive action to restore order and security, warning that failure to achieve measurable results within the stipulated two-week period would attract sanctions.
As part of the renewed security strategy, the commissioner directed DPOs and the Area Commander, Metro Area Command, to concentrate their efforts on securing the Abuja city centre, while he personally oversees security operations in the suburban districts of the FCT.
He further emphasized that the command would not tolerate negligence or laxity in the discharge of duties, charging the Area Commander Metro, as the supervising officer, to provide effective leadership and ensure strict compliance with all directives.
CP Sanusi also appealed to residents of the FCT to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence to the nearest police divisions or through the command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
The latest directive underscores the FCT Police Command’s determination to strengthen security and curb criminal activities across FCT – Abuja.
