The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi States, following judgments of the courts directing the Commission to reinstate the constituencies.
The restored constituencies comprise Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, and Yagba West II in Kogi State.
In a statement issued on Friday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC said party primaries for the restored constituencies would hold from August 21 to 25, 2026.
The Commission said the primaries would coincide with the period scheduled for party primaries for bye-elections to fill vacancies in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State; Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies of Bauchi State; Udu State Constituency of Delta State; and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State.
According to INEC, elections into all the affected constituencies have been fixed for September 19, 2026.
The electoral body clarified that all other timelines and activities contained in its already published revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election would apply to the restored constituencies.
INEC consequently directed political parties intending to participate in the elections to submit notices of their respective primaries to the Commission before the scheduled dates.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to conducting credible, inclusive and transparent electoral processes.
Haruna urged all stakeholders, particularly political parties, to adhere strictly to the approved timetable and other electoral guidelines.
