….Calls Alleged Deductions “Criminal, Cruel, a Betrayal of Nigerians”

The African Democratic Congress on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the ruling APC-led administration, alleging that governors elected on the platform of the party diverted over ₦800 billion from Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocations to finance the 2027 re-election campaign of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a strongly worded statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party described the alleged diversion of public funds as “shameless, cruel and criminal,” accusing the government of prioritising politics over the welfare of suffering Nigerians.
The ADC said the allegations, reportedly published by THEWILL, confirmed longstanding fears among citizens that the APC government had turned public resources into a political “war chest” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the party, despite record-breaking FAAC allocations to states following fuel subsidy removal and naira devaluation policies, ordinary Nigerians continue to face worsening poverty, inflation, hunger and insecurity.
“Under this APC government, states are receiving more money than at any other period in Nigeria’s history, yet Nigerians are poorer, hungrier, and more desperate than ever before,” the statement read.
The party lamented the continued collapse of public infrastructure, underfunded schools and hospitals, poor worker welfare and growing insecurity across the country, insisting that governance had taken a back seat to political ambition.
The ADC further argued that if the allegations are proven true, the action would amount to “a direct theft of resources belonging to the Nigerian people,” stressing that FAAC allocations are constitutionally meant for development projects, healthcare, education, salaries and security — not partisan political campaigns.
“These revelations explain why many APC governors appear more interested in political calculations than governance,” the statement added.
The opposition party also criticised what it described as hypocrisy within the government, accusing the administration of demanding sacrifices from Nigerians while allegedly mobilising enormous public funds for political purposes.
“The same government that told Nigerians there is no money to reduce suffering somehow found a way to allegedly mobilise over ₦800 billion for politics,” the ADC stated.
Calling for transparency and accountability, the party demanded an immediate independent investigation into the allegations, including scrutiny of any accounts or structures allegedly used in the operation.
The ADC warned that no amount of political spending would rescue a government that has “lost the confidence of the people,” insisting that Nigerians would hold leaders accountable at the polls.
“You cannot impoverish the people to fund your own re-election,” the statement concluded.
“Nigerians are not blind. Nigerians are not fools. And Nigerians will remember.”
