The Regy and Henry Amazing Grace Foundation (RHAGF) has commenced a three-week skills acquisition training programme for residents of Gbuduwyi Community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as part of efforts to strengthen household livelihoods, combat poverty and provide sustainable economic opportunities for vulnerable residents.
The intervention, which commenced on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, is being implemented in collaboration with the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs (FMoWA), and the Mental Health for Youth Initiative.
The programme, themed “Literacy Through Vocational & Psychological Support Intervention,” is designed to equip participants with practical vocational skills, literacy education, online safety knowledge and psychological support.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Head of Department, Vocational and Continuing Education, NMEC, Mrs. Nnenna Ejieji, urged residents of Gbuduwyi to take full advantage of the opportunity provided by RHAGF and its partners.
Ejieji encouraged members of the community to participate actively in the training, stressing that acquiring practical skills could provide them with sustainable sources of income and improve their families’ economic wellbeing.
She commended RHAGF for its consistency in providing humanitarian support and creating opportunities for Nigerians, particularly vulnerable communities within the FCT.
A representative of the Mental Health for Youth Initiative, Anthony, also encouraged participants to learn skills capable of providing sustainable livelihoods, describing the intervention as a valuable opportunity for the community.
In his remarks, the Kabusa Community District Head, HRH John Joseph, represented by Solomon, described the initiative as a “futuristic” humanitarian intervention capable of positively transforming the community.
He commended RHAGF and its partners for choosing Gbuduwyi for the programme and prayed for the foundation’s continued success and longevity in impacting lives and improving livelihoods.
Similarly, the Gbuduwyi Community Youth Leader, Augustin Philp, expressed appreciation to RHAGF and its partners for selecting the community for the intervention.
Philp said the programme had generated excitement among residents and prayed for more years of impactful humanitarian interventions by the foundation and its partners.
The Slum Coordinator, Mrs. Regina, in her opening remarks, also highlighted the foundation’s impact on vulnerable communities over the past decade, noting its sustained commitment to improving lives through humanitarian and empowerment programmes.
Earlier in her keynote address, the National Coordinator of RHAGF, Dr. Regina Duru, said the three-week intervention was designed to equip residents with skills, literacy and psychological support while reducing their vulnerability to trafficking, scams, drug abuse and gender-based violence.
Duru said the absence of employable skills and economic opportunities often leaves young people and vulnerable families exposed to exploitation and other social vices.
According to her, the programme is intended to provide practical alternatives by empowering participants with vocational skills and knowledge that can help them build sustainable livelihoods.
She said, “We are here for three weeks with one clear goal: to give you skills, literacy and hope so that no one in this community will be trapped by poverty, trafficking, scams or drugs.”
Duru explained that the programme would also focus on online safety, literacy and mental health support, in addition to vocational training.
She urged participants to take the training seriously and utilise the knowledge gained to improve their families and contribute positively to the development of Gbuduwyi.
The RHAGF National Coordinator expressed appreciation to the partner organisations, programme coordinators, facilitators and community leaders for their support, urging stakeholders to sustain collaboration for greater impact.
She said the foundation’s vision was to build a Gbuduwyi community that is free from trafficking and drug abuse and filled with opportunities for residents, particularly young people and vulnerable families.
The three-week training is expected to provide participants with practical skills and support aimed at strengthening their economic resilience and improving their overall wellbeing.
