The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday held its All National Support Groups Summit at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, calling on Nigerian youths and citizens to intensify efforts toward “rescuing the country” from what party leaders described as the current state of hardship.
Addressing journalists at the summit, the party’s National Deputy Publicity Secretary, Queen Okiyi Nkechi, urged Nigerians to rally behind the ADC as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
According to her, Nigerians are increasingly seeking political alternatives and inclusive governance, which she said the party aims to provide.
“We are having this summit to enlighten and mobilise our support groups in the right direction. Nigerians are tired of the current situation in the country and are looking for change. By the grace of God, the ADC will emerge victorious in 2027,” she said.
She called on citizens to register as voters and participate actively in the electoral process, stressing that political change requires collective action.
“I am calling on all Nigerians to get their voter cards ready and participate fully in the elections. If you want change, you must make the move by joining the ADC and coming out to vote. Your vote must count,” she added, while urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure free and fair elections.
Stating that Youths Key to Nigeria’s Future
Delivering a keynote speech during the summit, Okiyi emphasized the importance of youth participation in politics, noting that young people make up a significant portion of Nigeria’s population and therefore have a crucial role in shaping the nation’s future.
She urged youths to embrace responsible political engagement and avoid violence or destructive political activities.
“Youth involvement in politics must go beyond numbers. It must reflect discipline, vision, and commitment to nation-building. Politics should be a platform for service, development and transformation, not conflict,” she said.
She also highlighted the importance of youth inclusiveness and the role of women in leadership within the party.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the ADC National Youth Leader (Female), Obaro Uloho, said the summit was convened to unite various support groups within the party and strengthen grassroots mobilization.
She noted that the meeting was organized with the approval of the party’s national leadership, led by David Mark.
“The aim of this summit is to bring all our support groups together so they can speak with one voice. Unity within the party structure is essential as we prepare for future elections,” she said.
Also speaking at the event, House of Representatives aspirant for Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency, Aisha Ibrahim Adoke, encouraged party members to intensify registration drives at the grassroots level.
She urged participants to return to their communities and mobilise citizens to register as members of the party.
“We need credible leadership built on integrity and accountability. Everyone here should take the message back to their local governments and encourage people to join the ADC,” she said.
In his remarks, Moses Doga also called on party supporters to work collectively to address Nigeria’s current challenges and reposition the country for progress.
The summit attracted ADC support groups from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, underscoring the party’s efforts to consolidate its grassroots network ahead of future political contests.
Party leaders expressed optimism that strengthened collaboration among the groups would enhance mobilisation and contribute to Nigeria’s democratic development.
