The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared its determination to proceed with its scheduled congresses and national convention, despite the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) purported suspension of recognition for the party’s leadership pending the outcome of an ongoing court case.

Speaking on Arise TV’s Thursday morning programme, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, emphasized that the party had fulfilled all procedural requirements by notifying INEC 21 days in advance of its planned activities.

According to Abdullahi, the commission had acknowledged receipt of the notice, but the party would not be deterred by INEC’s current stance.

“We will go ahead with our congresses. We have given INEC 21 days’ notice, they have accepted. Whether they come or not, we will continue with our congresses and our convention,” he said.

INEC had earlier announced a temporary suspension of recognition for the ADC leadership due to an internal dispute currently before the courts.

However, Abdullahi’s remarks signal the party’s resolve to move forward regardless of the commission’s position, setting the stage for a potential standoff between the electoral body and the party leadership.
