As the Nation marks the Easter Season,the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, has called on Nigerians to embrace love, tolerance, and unity.
In his Easter message, Issa-Onilu urged citizens to reflect the spirit of the season—characterised by sacrifice, reconciliation, and renewed hope—in their daily interactions, regardless of differences in religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation.
He described the period as a critical moment in Nigeria’s history, noting that the country’s strength lies in its diversity and the shared commitment of its people to build a united and prosperous nation.
The NOA boss, however, raised concerns over persistent security threats, warning that terrorists and criminal elements remain the greatest danger to national unity.
He cited recent violent incidents, including bomb attacks in Maiduguri during Ramadan and the deadly assault on Angwan Rukuba community in Jos on Palm Sunday, as stark reminders of the challenges facing the country.
Issa-Onilu assured Nigerians that the government is intensifying efforts to combat insecurity, emphasizing its commitment to deploying all necessary resources and strategies to restore peace nationwide.
He also called on Christians and Muslims to stand united against forces seeking to divide the country, stressing that terrorism poses a common threat to all citizens and must not be allowed to undermine Nigeria’s long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence.
The DG further urged religious leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders to promote messages of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect, while calling on the media and civil society to counter hate speech and divisive narratives often exploited by extremist groups.
He concluded by extending Easter greetings to Christians across the country, expressing hope that the season would bring healing, harmony, and renewed optimism for Nigeria.
