The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the declaration underscores the Federal Government’s respect for the Islamic faith and the spiritual significance of Eid-ul-Adha to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.
The government extended warm greetings and congratulations to Muslim faithful in the country and in the Diaspora as they join the global Islamic community in celebrating the sacred festival.
Describing Eid-ul-Adha as a season of sacrifice, obedience and compassion, the Federal Government urged Nigerians to embrace the values of love, tolerance and peaceful coexistence during the festivities.
The Minister also called on citizens to use the holiday period to offer prayers for Nigeria’s continued peace, security, unity and economic prosperity.
“The Federal Government urges all Nigerians to use this period for prayer and sober reflection, asking for divine guidance upon the country as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for every citizen,” the statement read.
The government further emphasized the importance of national unity and shared humanity, wishing Muslims across the country a peaceful, blessed and joyous Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
The statement was officially signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on May 25, 2026.
