In a major step towards transforming Nigeria’s transport sector, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing transport training, research, innovation and road safety across the country.

The agreement, signed by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and the Director-General of NITT, Dr. Bayero Farah, is expected to strengthen institutional collaboration, enhance professional capacity and align Nigeria’s transport education with global best practices.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Corps Marshal Mohammed described the partnership as a defining moment for Nigeria’s road transport sector, saying the alliance reflects a shared commitment to building a safer, smarter and more efficient transportation system.
According to him, the MoU will deepen cooperation in specialised training, research, technology-driven learning, driver education, knowledge exchange and human capital development. He noted that while both institutions have enjoyed a productive working relationship over the years, the formal agreement provides a structured framework for expanding collaboration and delivering measurable results.
The FRSC boss added that the partnership would strengthen research capacity, modernise driver training centres, improve ICT-based learning and produce globally competitive transport professionals capable of addressing emerging road safety and mobility challenges. He stressed that the agreement is designed for immediate implementation and will serve as a catalyst for reforms across Nigeria’s transport sector.
In his remarks, the Director-General of NITT, Dr. Bayero Farah, commended the FRSC leadership for its commitment and support throughout the negotiation process, describing the Corps’ role as instrumental to the successful conclusion of the agreement.
Farah said the primary objective of the MoU is to ensure that transport education, professional training and research in Nigeria meet international standards, thereby producing a highly skilled workforce capable of driving sustainable national development.
The signing ceremony attracted key stakeholders from the transport sector, including the Chief Executive Officer of AAI, Mr. Ahmed Abdelhafaz, and the Chairman of AAI, Mr. Ejike Njeze, among others. Their presence underscored the strategic significance of the partnership and growing confidence among local and international stakeholders in Nigeria’s transport reform agenda.
The FRSC-NITT partnership is widely seen as a significant milestone in efforts to modernise Nigeria’s transport system through innovation, research, capacity building and enhanced road safety initiatives.
