The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has successfully concluded the cascading of its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, marking a major milestone in the Agency’s drive to align all directorates with its long-term vision of delivering world-class meteorological services across Nigeria.
The strategy cascade follows the official launch of the Strategy 2026–2030 on March 16, 2026, and is designed to translate the Agency’s enterprise-wide goals into practical, directorate-level action plans that will guide implementation over the next five years.
Built on the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) framework, the strategic plan is anchored on five Strategic Pillars and twelve Strategic Objectives, providing a comprehensive roadmap for strengthening meteorological service delivery, improving organizational performance, and enhancing climate resilience nationwide.
According to NiMet, the cascading exercise was undertaken to ensure that every directorate clearly understands its responsibilities and contribution toward achieving the Agency’s strategic objectives.
The initiative also aligns operational activities with corporate priorities while establishing measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive accountability and performance across the organization.
To ensure broad participation, the exercise was conducted in four batches involving all nine directorates and the Office of the Director General/Chief Executive Officer.
The first batch featured the Directorates of Weather Forecasting Services and Applied Meteorological Services.
The second brought together the Office of the Director General/CEO, the Directorate of Corporate Services, and the Directorate of Research and Training. The third involved the Directorates of Engineering and Technical Services as well as Human Resource Management and Administration, while the final batch covered the Directorates of Finance and Accounts, Public Affairs and Customer Protection, and Legal Services.
Agency officials said the structured approach will strengthen institutional capacity, improve coordination, deepen accountability, and ensure that strategic priorities are embedded in day-to-day operations throughout the Agency.
With the successful completion of the strategy cascade, NiMet has positioned every directorate to contribute effectively toward achieving its 2026–2030 vision, reinforcing its commitment to providing reliable, world-class meteorological services that support national development and climate resilience.
