The Regy and Henry Amazing Grace Foundation (RHAGF) has called for stronger partnerships and increased investment in skills acquisition and education as critical tools for preventing drug abuse among vulnerable children and youths across Nigeria.

The Foundation made the call on Friday, June 26, 2026 during the commemoration of the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and organised by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Representing RHAGF at the high-level event, the Foundation’s National Coordinator, Mrs. Duru Regina, PhD, joined government officials, civil society organisations, development partners and other stakeholders in discussions centred on this year’s global theme: “The World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges and Innovative Responses.”
Speaking to theme of this year’s event, Mrs. Duru stressed that equipping young people with education, life skills and vocational opportunities remains one of the most effective strategies for preventing substance abuse, particularly in underserved communities.
According to her, RHAGF’s intervention programmes, including the Slum-to-School Phase Two Project and the forthcoming Gishiri Skill Acquisition Programme, are designed to provide literacy education, digital safety awareness, life skills and vocational training to over 100 vulnerable children and youths.
“In slum communities, the most innovative response is prevention through skills.
At RHAGF, we do not just pay school fees. We equip children and youths with literacy, digital safety, life skills and vocational training to help them remain in school and resist drug influence. Education is prevention, and a skilled child is a safe child,” she said.
The Foundation also used the occasion to advocate deeper collaboration between government agencies, corporate organisations and civil society groups to expand grassroots drug prevention initiatives across the Federal Capital Territory and other parts of the country.
RHAGF commended the NDLEA, led by Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), CON, OFR, for providing a platform that amplifies the contributions of community-based organisations working to address drug abuse and youth vulnerability.
The Abuja-based non-governmental organisation focuses on education, drug prevention, youth empowerment and community development, with flagship programmes aimed at keeping children in school and away from crime, substance abuse and other social vices.
Stakeholders at the event including RHAGF reiterated the need for innovative and community-driven approaches to tackling drug abuse, describing prevention-focused interventions as essential to securing the future of Nigeria’s young population.
