The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has paid glowing tribute to Nigerian workers, describing them as the backbone of the nation’s development and vital drivers of economic progress.

In a message marking this year’s May Day celebration, Issa-Onilu said the occasion offers an important moment to reflect on the dignity of labour and the indispensable role workers play in sustaining the country. He noted that the daily sacrifices of Nigerian workers continue to keep the economy afloat despite prevailing challenges.

The NOA boss commended workers across both public and private sectors for their resilience, dedication, and steadfast commitment, emphasizing that their contributions remain central to national growth at a time of economic and social pressures.

He stated that Nigeria stands at a critical point in its development journey, where achieving sustainable prosperity will depend largely on increased productivity, discipline, and a collective commitment to excellence.

Issa-Onilu called on workers to rededicate themselves to core values such as hard work, integrity, and professionalism, stressing that these principles are essential not only for personal success but also for national advancement.
Reaffirming the agency’s stance, he said meaningful transformation in Nigeria must begin with a shift in mindset, urging citizens to embrace a culture that promotes diligence, innovation, and accountability.

He also warned against indolence, corruption, and inefficiency, describing them as major obstacles to development and progress across key sectors of the economy.

Expressing optimism about the country’s future, Issa-Onilu highlighted ongoing government efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda to improve workers’ welfare, strengthen institutions, and create a more enabling environment for productivity.

He concluded by urging Nigerian workers to remain patriotic and committed to building a nation where labour is valued, opportunities are broadened, and prosperity is shared by all.
