By: Goodluck E. Adubazi, Abuja.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has commenced a sweeping nationwide membership revalidation and registration exercise with the inauguration of a high-powered Membership, Revalidation, Mobilization and Registration (MRMR) Committee, signaling a decisive move to strengthen the party’s grassroots base and internal cohesion.

National Chairman of the party, Senator David A.B. Mark, GCON, who inaugurated the committee at the ADC Party Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, January 7,2026, described the initiative as a strategic milestone in repositioning the ADC for national relevance, electoral competitiveness, and credible democratic engagement.

Addressing members of the National Working Committee (NWC), National Executive Committee (NEC), party stakeholders and the newly constituted committee, Senator Mark said the survival and success of any political party depend on the strength, credibility, and documentation of its membership.
“Membership is the lifeblood of any democratic organization. It determines legitimacy, reach, strength, and ultimately, electoral victory,” he stated.

According to him, the decision to set up the MRMR Committee followed a resolution of the NWC and was driven by the urgent need to revalidate existing members, register new ones, harmonize membership records nationwide, and deepen the party’s presence at the grassroots.

Senator Mark noted that the ADC, founded on the ideals of justice, equity, accountability, and people-centred governance, must build a solid and verifiable membership structure to translate its principles into political success.

He outlined a comprehensive mandate for the committee, tasking it with overseeing new membership registration across the federation, developing a nationwide mobilization strategy, and deploying both electronic and manual registration systems.
Other responsibilities include conducting a full membership revalidation exercise in all states and the Federal Capital Territory, harmonizing existing records to eliminate duplication and irregularities, strengthening party structures through membership expansion, and liaising with state and local leadership to ensure smooth implementation.

The committee is also expected to submit an interim report to the NWC within 30 days and has been empowered to co-opt additional party members with relevant expertise to support its assignment.

Senator Mark disclosed that newly introduced membership cards come with enhanced security features and are customized for individual states and the FCT to improve credibility and data integrity.
Call for Integrity and Inclusion
Charging members of the committee to approach the task with fairness and transparency, the ADC chairman stressed that the exercise is not intended to exclude any member but to unite, organize, and strengthen the party.

“This assignment must be carried out without bias or favoritism. It is about inclusion, credibility, and building a party that can meet the expectations of Nigerians who yearn for responsible leadership and democratic governance,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the committee’s work would energize the ADC’s grassroots base, deepen its democratic culture, and prepare the party for future political challenges and opportunities.

Senator Mark formally declared the MRMR Committee inaugurated, urging members to discharge their duties with patriotism and commitment to the party’s ideals.

The event ended with party chants of solidarity: “ADC! Arise! ADC! Arise! A D & C! Arise and Shine Nigeria.”
