President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday inaugurated a high-level Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation, a move aimed at addressing internal disputes within Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The committee brings together serving governors, federal ministers, and senior party stakeholders, underscoring the administration’s push for unity and internal cohesion within the APC.
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni was appointed chairman of the committee, while Muiz Banire, a former APC National Legal Adviser, will serve as member and secretary.
Among the committee members are Senator Adamu Aliero; Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum; Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum; and governors Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta).
Also named to the committee are Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, and Ibrahim Masari, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs.
Speaking at the inauguration in Lagos, Governor Buni thanked President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the committee and pledged a responsible and inclusive approach to its mandate.
“The committee will engage in strategic consultations to develop a productive and result-oriented framework that can stand the test of time,” Buni said. “Our goal is to ensure that all stakeholders, especially aggrieved members, feel a renewed sense of belonging and inclusion within the party.”
He added that the committee would prioritize proactive conflict-resolution mechanisms and urged members to put party unity above personal interests.
President Tinubu had earlier emphasized the need for internal harmony during the APC’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. He reminded party leaders that the APC was founded on progressive ideals, broad participation, and respect for differing opinions.
“We must be resolute that this democracy we hold in our hands must not fail,” Tinubu said at the meeting. “To be resilient, we must be tolerant and accommodating.”
The inauguration of the committee signals a strategic effort by the ruling party to consolidate unity and strengthen its political footing ahead of the next electoral cycle.
