The Coalition of APC Support Groups National Coordinators has held its inaugural Executive Meeting, setting a strategic agenda aimed at strengthening coordination, grassroots mobilisation, recognition and engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, which brought together members of the Coalition’s national executive leadership, was held to establish a common direction and lay the foundation for a more structured and result-oriented platform for APC support groups across the country.
Speaking at the meeting, the National Convener, Comrade Richard M. Onyebuwa, highlighted his experience in Nigeria’s political environment, including his background as a political reporter and journalist.
Onyebuwa said his experience had provided him with an understanding of political mobilisation, party structures, support groups and the relationship between political actors and grassroots stakeholders.
He urged members to approach their responsibilities with commitment, discipline, resilience and a clear understanding of the Coalition’s objectives.
The National Convener also acknowledged individuals whose contributions, including financial support, he said had helped establish the foundation of the Coalition.
He specifically appreciated the Co-Convener, High Chief Amb. (Dr.) James Bebe, JP; National Director-General, Presidential Campaign Council, Hon. AlHassan Mohammed Baba; and National Director, Events, Protocols and Hospitality, Hon. Aisha Umaru Yakubu, for their contributions to the development of the Coalition.
Onyebuwa outlined the Coalition’s vision of providing a coordinated platform through which APC support groups and their national coordinators can work together, strengthen grassroots structures and contribute to mobilisation efforts for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting also featured discussions on challenges confronting support group leaders and dedicated party members, particularly concerns over inadequate recognition of individuals and groups that commit significant time, resources and energy to political mobilisation.
Participants called for a more structured relationship between support groups, party leadership and public office holders, with emphasis on recognising grassroots contributions based on commitment, mobilisation, coordination and measurable impact.
The Coalition consequently resolved to pursue constructive engagement with relevant party leaders and public office holders serving under the Tinubu administration, while developing mechanisms to make its activities and grassroots contributions more visible and effectively communicated.
Members also stressed the need for proper documentation of the Coalition’s activities, mobilisation efforts and grassroots impact as part of efforts to build a disciplined and functional organisational structure.
As part of the resolutions, members of the inaugural Executive Meeting will be assigned to various committees responsible for planning and coordinating the Coalition’s first physical meeting, scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The committees are expected to oversee different aspects of the forthcoming gathering, including planning, participation and overall coordination.
The inaugural Executive Meeting marks a further step in the Coalition’s transition from conceptualisation to a structured operational framework.
The Coalition reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening coordination among APC support group leaders, deepening grassroots engagement and contributing to political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting comes amid broader efforts by APC stakeholders and support groups to build more coordinated grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 elections. Recent reports indicate that the APC has also discussed profiling and harmonising support groups to improve campaign coordination nationwide.
