Stakeholders in Nigeria’s road sector have commended the Federal Government for the quality and durability of ongoing road infrastructure projects in Kaduna State, describing the works as a major boost to safety, connectivity and economic growth under the Renewed Hope Administration.
The commendation came during a National Media Tour and commissioning of projects held on Monday, 19 January 2026, where the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, North West Zone, Hon. Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, led engineers, regulators, host communities and road users on an inspection of key federal road projects across the state.
Speaking during the tour, Hon. Yakasai said the standard of work being executed across the inspected roads reflects the Federal Government’s resolve to deliver long-lasting infrastructure.
“The quality of work being executed is of such a standard that the roads will outlive us,” he said, praising the Federal Ministry of Works and contractors for strict adherence to approved engineering specifications and alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
As part of the exercise, the SSA-P commissioned three emergency and special intervention projects: the 4.5km Taban Sani Road in Makarfi Local Government Area; the Sabo Rail Bridge–Command Junction Road in Chikun Local Government Area; and the Mahuta Army Post-Service Housing Scheme Roads, also in Chikun.
Earlier, the Federal Controller of Works in Kaduna State, Engr. Ulagu Loveday, explained that the completion of outstanding sections of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Expressway followed the termination of the original contract and its reassignment to a new contractor. He disclosed that the project was redesigned from a flexible asphalt pavement to a Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP), in line with global best practices aimed at improving durability, safety and reducing long-term maintenance costs.
Providing technical details, the Senior Project Manager of Infiouest International Construction Limited, Engr. Robert Turner, said the work involves pulverising the existing pavement, reinstating the stone base, installing steel reinforcement and laying high-strength concrete, followed by a 14-day curing period. He noted that one section is scheduled for completion by October 2025, while another is expected by April 2026, subject to funding availability.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Kaduna Branch, Engr. Muhammadu Ibrahim, alongside Engr. Arege Samson Bawa, confirmed that the projects comply with professional and engineering standards. They praised the Minister of Works, Sen. (Engr.) David Umahi, CON, for prioritising quality, professionalism and the active involvement of Nigerian engineers, while highlighting the long-term benefits of CRCP technology over flexible pavements.
On the Kaduna Eastern Bypass Project, Project Manager ofp Messrs Eksiogullari Construction (Nig.) Limited, Engr. Salihu Yunusa, said the completion of the Rabah Road Interchange would significantlyp ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity within Kaduna State and the wider North West region.
Similarly, representatives of Messrs Dantata & Sawoe (Nig.) Limited and the project financiers, Dangote Group, reaffirmed their commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure under the Federal Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme. Engr. Jonathan Obrusu of Dangote said the partnership reflects private sector support for national development.
The Project Manager of Mothercat (Nigeria) Ltd, Engr. Ziad Karan, also assured stakeholders of sustained quality on the Zaria–Funtua–Gusau–Sokoto Road, Section I (Zaria–Sheme), spanning Kaduna and Katsina states, noting positive feedback from road users.
In a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mohammed A. Ahmed, on 20 January 2026, it was disclosed that the tour also covered the Mararraba–Pambeguwa Road, where the Federal Controller of Works and the Project Manager of Setraco (Nigeria) Limited, Mr. Moustapha Jaber, confirmed that the project is 98 per cent completed and already open to traffic ahead of formal commissioning.
In his closing remarks, Hon. Yakasai thanked all stakeholders for their collaboration and reassured communities along the project corridors of the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to delivering safe, durable and economically impactful road infrastructure across Kaduna State, the North West zone and the country at large.
