The newly elected executives of the Environmental Correspondents Association of Nigeria (EMCAN), led by its Chairman, Joycelyn Ellakeche Adah, have held a strategic meeting with the Immediate Past Chairman of the association, Mr. Amechi Chukwuekwu Oyema, in a move aimed at strengthening unity and advancing the growth of the organisation.
The meeting, described as a handshake of progress, provided an opportunity for the new leadership to appreciate the former chairman for his sportsmanship, commitment and willingness to support a smooth transition of leadership within the association.
Discussions at the meeting centred on the future of EMCAN, with the new executives and the immediate past chairman exchanging ideas on ways to strengthen the association, promote professionalism among environmental journalists, create more opportunities for members and reposition EMCAN for greater local and international impact.
Speaking during the meeting, Adah expressed appreciation to Oyema for his openness and support, reiterating the commitment of the new executive to building a stronger, more inclusive and united association where every member would have a role to play.
She said the new leadership was determined to consolidate on the achievements of previous administrations while pursuing initiatives that would enhance the welfare, professional development and opportunities available to members.
The Immediate Past Chairman, Oyema, stressed the importance of collective responsibility among members, noting that unity and cooperation were essential for EMCAN to achieve greater recognition both within Nigeria and internationally.
He urged members of the association to work together in support of the current executives, saying the success of the leadership should be seen as a collective responsibility.
The meeting also examined possible ways of addressing grey areas and challenges that could hinder the smooth operation and success of the current EMCAN executive.
At the end of the meeting, both the new executives and the immediate past chairman reaffirmed their commitment to the unity, progress and continued growth of the Environmental Correspondents Association of Nigeria.
The engagement ended on a positive note, signalling renewed cooperation between the past and present leadership in the collective effort to build a stronger and more vibrant EMCAN
