The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced a sharp rise in its membership base following the defection of former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the party.
In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party disclosed that its online registration platform witnessed a significant influx of new members within 24 hours of the announcement.
The ADC described Kwankwaso’s entry into the party as a major political boost, labeling him a “game-changer” whose influence is already reshaping its support base nationwide. According to the statement, the former governor has urged his followers and political allies across the country to join the party, a call that appears to be driving the surge in registrations.
“This development reflects a growing recognition among Nigerians that the country needs a new direction,” the statement read, emphasizing the party’s vision of building a people-centered alternative.
Kwankwaso, known for his grassroots appeal and political structure, is expected to play a key role in strengthening the ADC’s coalition ahead of future elections.
The defection event was attended by top party figures, including National Chairman David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, alongside prominent political leaders such as Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi.
Other notable attendees included Liyel Imoke, Emeka Ihedioha, and former Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, signaling what party officials described as a united and growing movement.
The ADC stated that the influx of new members demonstrates increasing public alignment with its vision, adding that the party remains committed to building a credible platform focused on governance, opportunity, and national development.
Party officials also used the opportunity to call on Nigerians seeking change to join the movement, stressing that collective action is key to achieving meaningful political transformation.
