The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and other key agencies, has intensified preparations for the official launch of the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) Initiative in Nigeria.
The move followed an inter-agency meeting hosted by NiMet on Friday, August 21, 2026, to review preparations and strengthen coordination ahead of the national launch.
The meeting was chaired by the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, with the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, in attendance.
The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, participated virtually in the meeting, while the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA), Umar Ibrahim Mohammed; Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju; and representatives of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) also participated.
At the meeting, the Local Organising Committee presented a progress report on preparations for the national launch, highlighting milestones achieved, ongoing inter-agency engagements and priority actions required to ensure a successful rollout.
The Inter-Agency Technical Committee also presented the Nigeria EW4All Implementation Roadmap 2026–2029, which provides a framework for the coordinated implementation of the initiative and identifies key priorities for strengthening early warning systems across the country.
The meeting further reinforced collaboration among participating agencies and reaffirmed their commitment to developing people-centred, multi-hazard early warning systems capable of improving disaster preparedness and response.
The agencies also emphasised the importance of coordinated action in strengthening climate resilience and ensuring that timely and actionable warnings reach vulnerable communities across Nigeria.
The EW4All initiative is expected to enhance Nigeria’s capacity to anticipate, prepare for and respond to weather- and climate-related hazards through stronger institutional coordination, communication systems and community-level preparedness.
