The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and TomorrowNow have partnered to strengthen the delivery of timely and reliable weather and climate advisories to farmers across Nigeria, in a move expected to improve agricultural planning and resilience.
The partnership was highlighted during a side event on the third day of the Alliance for Hydromet Development Annual Meeting in Lagos, where both organisations emphasised the need to make climate information more accessible and useful to farmers.
The initiative aims to equip farmers with clearer, more timely and actionable climate information to support informed decisions on planting, farm management and other agricultural activities.
Speaking at the event, NiMet’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Charles Anosike, stressed the importance of standardising climate information provided to stakeholders across the agricultural value chain.
Anosike said the agreement must be results-driven and deliver tangible benefits to farmers, underscoring the need to translate weather and climate data into practical guidance that supports agricultural productivity.
In his remarks, TomorrowNow Chief Executive Officer, Brian Miranda, assured NiMet’s leadership of the organisation’s commitment to scaling up climate advisory services for Nigeria’s agriculture and livestock sectors.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen farmers’ access to actionable weather forecasts and climate guidance, enabling producers to make better-informed decisions in response to changing weather conditions.
By improving the availability and use of climate information, the partnership also seeks to build resilience across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain and help farmers better manage weather-related risks.
