The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has called on Corps Members to exercise responsibility in their use of social media, urging them to promote national unity and the ideals of the scheme through their online engagements.

Addressing the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Corps Members at orientation camps in Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory, and Keffi, Nasarawa State, the NYSC helmsman reminded them of their expected participation in the 2027 General Elections. He stressed the importance of maintaining strict neutrality, noting that Corps Members must remain non-partisan both offline and in their digital interactions.

General Nafiu encouraged the participants to build meaningful relationships during their service year, describing such connections as potentially lifelong and impactful. He cited examples of notable Nigerians who developed enduring friendships during their NYSC service.

He further highlighted the value of the service year as an opportunity to experience Nigeria’s cultural diversity, urging Corps Members to embrace unity, camaraderie, and mutual understanding beyond the orientation camp.

The Director-General also reminded them of their responsibility to give back to society, noting that many may have once benefited from the contributions of Corps Members, particularly in the education sector.

On personal development, he advised Corps Members to take the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme seriously, stating that it could provide additional income streams or evolve into full-time careers after service.

General Nafiu also emphasized financial discipline, encouraging them to save part of their monthly allowance despite the challenges of the service year, which he described as a period of sacrifice and dedication.

He urged Corps Members to channel their creativity and ideas into impactful community development projects, building on the legacies of previous participants and contributing meaningfully to national development.

Meanwhile, the FCT Coordinator, Samson Ateli, disclosed that 6,225 Corps Members had registered in the territory. In Nasarawa State, Coordinator Hajia Salamatu Muhammad reported that 2,679 Corps Members were registered at the Keffi orientation camp, including 796 deployed to serve in the FCT.

The address formed part of ongoing orientation activities designed to prepare Corps Members for a year of national service and civic responsibility.
