The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Nigeria Police Force have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at enhancing the safety of Corps Members across the country.
This renewed pledge was made during a high-level meeting in Abuja, where the NYSC Director-General, Olakunle Nafiu, paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters.
Speaking during the visit, Nafiu congratulated the IGP on his recent appointment and praised the inauguration of his newly assembled crack team, describing it as a step toward improved policing efficiency.
He emphasized that the Police have remained a critical partner in the success of NYSC programmes since the scheme’s inception, noting that sustained cooperation is vital for the safety of Corps Members nationwide.
The NYSC boss appealed for intensified security coverage for Corps Members and officials, both within orientation camps and at their various places of primary assignment. He also called for the protection of Corps lodges and personal property, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
On policy matters, Nafiu highlighted provisions of the NYSC Act, which exempt members of the Armed Forces and paramilitary agencies from national service. He expressed the need for closer engagement with the Police Academy to facilitate the issuance of certificates of exemption to its graduates in line with statutory requirements.
In his response, Disu assured that the Police would continue to provide robust security for the scheme.
He noted that the Force maintains records of all Corps lodges nationwide, enabling prompt response when necessary.
The IGP also welcomed the proposal on exemption certificates for graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy and pledged stronger institutional collaboration with the NYSC.
The meeting underscores ongoing efforts by both agencies to reinforce national service operations through improved security and administrative cooperation.
