Residents and businesses in Bauchi, Gombe, Yola and surrounding communities should prepare for a temporary power outage as the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced a planned shutdown of the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 330kV transmission line.
According to a statement issued by NISO Management on July 17, 2026, the outage will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, and end at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
The planned shutdown will allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to connect the Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) on the 330kV transmission line as part of ongoing efforts to modernise and strengthen the nation’s electricity transmission network.
NISO disclosed that the maintenance work will also require the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132kV transmission line to be temporarily taken out of service to ensure a safe working environment for engineers carrying out the project.
As a result, electricity supply to Bauchi, Gombe, Yola and neighbouring areas is expected to be interrupted throughout the maintenance period.
The system operator explained that the OPGW installation is designed to improve the national grid’s reliability, monitoring and communication capabilities, enhancing the overall performance of the transmission infrastructure.
While expressing regret over the temporary inconvenience, NISO appealed to electricity consumers and market participants in the affected areas for their understanding and cooperation as the upgrade is expected to deliver long-term benefits to the power sector.
