The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kano Region, has received two 100MVA power transformers for installation at the ongoing 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Katsina State, marking a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen electricity transmission across the North-West.
The transformers, delivered on Thursday, July 9, are key components of TCN’s strategic grid expansion programme aimed at improving bulk power supply to Katsina State and surrounding areas while reinforcing the national transmission network.
According to the company, the transformers will play a vital role in completing the new substation. Once installed, tested and commissioned, they are expected to increase transmission capacity in the region by an additional 160 megawatts (MW).
TCN said the completion and energisation of the Katsina substation will enhance the reliability, flexibility and overall efficiency of power transmission.
The facility will also improve the company’s ability to evacuate more bulk electricity to Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving Katsina State and neighbouring communities.
The Katsina project is part of a broader nationwide transmission infrastructure expansion and modernization programme being implemented by TCN to strengthen the national grid and meet Nigeria’s growing electricity demand.
Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), in a Statement on Tuesday said” The development underscores the company’s continued investment in expanding transmission capacity as part of ongoing efforts to improve power delivery across the country.
