The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has strengthened its partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina State to combat the rising cases of vandalism and Right-of-Way (RoW) encroachment threatening the nation’s electricity transmission infrastructure.
The renewed collaboration followed a courtesy visit by the TCN Katsina Sub-Region team, led by the Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Engr. Usman S. Idris, to the NSCDC Katsina State Command on July 6, 2026.
During the meeting, Engr. Idris commended the NSCDC for its swift response to previous security incidents involving TCN facilities. He also briefed the Command on recent attacks on transmission infrastructure within the sub-region, including the vandalism of Towers T-219 and T-228 along the Katsina–Daura 132kV transmission line.
According to him, the damaged towers were discovered during a routine patrol and represent part of a growing trend of attacks on critical power infrastructure.
He warned that vandalism and illegal encroachment on transmission Right-of-Way corridors pose serious threats to the integrity of the national grid and the stability of electricity supply, stressing the need for sustained collaboration between TCN and security agencies to protect strategic national assets.
Responding, the Katsina State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Dan-Ile Moriki, disclosed that investigations into the reported incidents were already underway. He assured TCN of the Corps’ continued support and pledged closer operational coordination to curb vandalism and Right-of-Way encroachment through proactive security measures.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening intelligence sharing and joint efforts aimed at safeguarding Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure from criminal activities” Said a statement by Ndidi Mbah
