Ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s State Visit to Türkiye, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on Monday held high-level strategic talks with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, in Ankara, signaling a renewed push to deepen bilateral relations between both countries.

The meeting marked Tuggar’s first official visit to Türkiye and focused on expanding cooperation across political, economic, security, and multilateral fronts. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan commended Nigeria’s constructive leadership role in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in West Africa, highlighting the country’s influence within regional and continental frameworks.

Discussions placed strong emphasis on boosting bilateral trade and scaling up mutual investment. Ambassador Tuggar underscored opportunities for Turkish businesses in key sectors such as construction, manufacturing, energy, and infrastructure. Both ministers acknowledged the steady growth in economic ties and stressed the need to unlock further potential through structured public–private sector engagement.
On security matters, the two sides explored avenues for enhanced cooperation in military affairs and collaboration within the defence industry, reflecting shared interests in regional and global security.

The visit underscores the growing strategic character of Nigeria–Türkiye relations, anchored on shared commitments to sovereignty, institutional cooperation, and pragmatic partnership. Both countries expressed confidence in the prospects for deeper engagement in the period ahead.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued Monday by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs.
