The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has foiled an attempt by suspected vandals to steal critical transmission infrastructure at its 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi.
The incident occurred at about 9:34 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, when security personnel at the substation intercepted the suspects attempting to remove transmission tower members.
The suspects reportedly fled the scene after sighting the security guards.
Following an inspection of the area, security personnel recovered 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale and a white pickup truck suspected to have been used in the operation.
TCN said the recovered items and the vehicle had been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station, Bauchi, for further investigation.
The company disclosed that no equipment was successfully stolen and no injury was recorded during the incident.
In a statement signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN commended the prompt response and vigilance of its security personnel, saying their action prevented the theft of, or damage to, critical transmission infrastructure.
The company also urged host communities to report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
